What is bloom?

Spring is upon us in Minnesota… yes, I know it’s April 1st and we just got 8” of snow… but any day now, the spring blooms will be out! That has me thinking of beeswax bloom and I thought I’d take a minute to let you in on what this is and how you can care for the bloom on your beeswax candles.

Beeswax bloom is a natural occurrence that happens to beeswax candles. It is caused by the oils in the beeswax rising to the surface and crystallizing. This can happen for a number of reasons, including changes in temperature, humidity, or air pressure.

Beeswax bloom is not harmful to the candle and does not affect the way it burns. However, it can be unsightly, so some people may prefer to remove it. If you want to remove beeswax bloom, you can use a soft cloth to buff it away. Alternatively, you can also use a hair dryer, a heat gun, or run your candle under hot water to melt the bloom away.

Beeswax bloom is actually a sign of quality, as it indicates that the candle is made with pure beeswax. So, if you see beeswax bloom on your candle, don't worry, it's nothing to be concerned about.
